Stocks Cafe is committed to the conservation and improvement of the environment and to minimising the environmental impact from its activities.

We have the following key objectives:

ˇ to comply with the requirements of relevant legislation (e.g. Food Standards Agency, Environmental Health etc);

ˇ to make efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy and water;

ˇ to purchase environmentally friendly products;

ˇ to minimise waste production as far as is practicable and to reuse or recycle waste where appropriate;

ˇ to communicate via our web-site, our environmental performance.

Energy - to promote an ethical environmental practice, we are currently doing the following which have dramatically reduced our energy consumption:

ˇ All light bulbs have been replaced with low energy bulbs

ˇ We have installed energy efficient appliances

ˇ Sava flush bags used in the cisterns to reduce water on each flush

ˇ Thermostats have been added to all radiators

ˇ Introduced a switch off culture when energy not needed

Purchasing - A large proportion of our raw materials are purchased from suppliers within a 20 mile radius of Chapel.  We choose to purchase environmentally friendly products where there is an option.  Examples: the bin bags that we use are recycled and bio-degradable, napkins, toilet paper, kitchen roll and paper cups are all made from recycled paper.

Recycling - We recycle glass, plastic, tins, paper, cardboard and vegetable oil. We compost raw vegetable waste, coffee grounds, tea bags and egg shells. We have now reduced the size of our waste bin from 340 litres to 240.  This is now predominantly used for food waste for which there is no other option than to send to landfill.
